Why Us?

“It is a privilege to treat people with hands-on therapy and to be able to facilitate healing.  It requires skills, but also a continuous quest for anatomical knowledge and understanding.”

Jean-Pierre Barral, DO, MRO(F), PT

Developer of Visceral Manipulation/Founder, Barral Institute

Xavier Harvey is a NJ Licensed Massage, Bodywork, and Somatic Therapist. He has been a bodyworker for 18yrs now and aspires to become a Doctor of Oriental Medicine (DOM) specializing in family practice, rehabilitation, and other manual manipulation. He is proud to annouce that he is currently enrolled in Pacific College of Oriental Medicine - NY to complete his MTOM program! He is eagerly anticipating this next phase on his journey of life and all the new discoveries in knowledge and understanding.   He desires aiding the quest for full awareness and understanding of Oriental Medicines’ role as the interlinking piece to all medicines.  The totality of medicines cannot be fully optimized through harmony if one does not master thy self. He has chosen this path because he feels that the validity and effectiveness of complimentary and alternative medicines needs to be substantiated especially medical massage and bodywork.

He performed Qi gong massage on family and friends while he finished his Engineering Degree from Drexel University. At which time Xavier discovered that he could either do something he liked for a living or something that he loves!  After receiving his Architectural Engineering degree from Drexel he went onto Acupuncture & Herbology School in 2003 in Chicago, IL at Pacific College of  Oriental Medicine (PCOM). People ask him all the time how he went from architectural engineering to bodywork, to which he replies, "I just went from a static non-living structure to a dynamic living structure.'' He did not complete the acupuncture and herbs program, due to personal issues, which caused him to move back to NJ. However, he did complete the Oriental Body Therapist program in 2005 and was two classes from getting a western massage certification as well. The OBT program specialized in such techniques as Shiatsu, Thai, and Tui Na therapies. After getting the OBT certification he then completed advanced certifications in Tui Na and Thai therapies. Upon moving back to NJ he has received his Western Massage Certification from Lourdes Institute of Holistic Studies (LIWS), where he is currently an instructor in the massage program, currently teaching Pathology for Massage Therapists, Deep Tissue, Introduction to Tui Na Hand Techniques, Introduction to Thai Massage, Introduction to Tai Chi, Sports Massage I and II, a class that he created which is a bodywork blend called Somatic Balancing; and has taught Business for Massage Therapists, Pathology for Reflexologists, and been a supervisor for onsite chair massage.

He has been doing CEU work in Reflexology (Foot and Hand), Advanced Myofascial Therapy, CranioSacral Therapy, Total Body Balancing, Visceral Manipulation, Muscle Energy Technique, Positional Release Technique, Lymphatic Drainage, Hot and Cold Stone massage, Rain Drop Therapy, Auricular Therapy (Ear Reflexology), Orthopedic Assessment, Nerve Mobilization, Cupping and Gua Sha. Advanced certifications include: Scoliosis, Whiplash, Fibromyalgia, Sciatica and Disk Issues, TMJ and Headaches.

In addition to his bodywork and massage experience he has been studying martial arts since he was 4 years of age and currently teaches Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and Chinese Kung Fu. He has 2 black belts, one in Tae Kwan Do, and the other in American Goju Ryu. For the past 22 years he has studied Wing Chun, Yang Family Tai Chi long and short forms, Qi Gong, the Classical animals, and Chin Na. He also has experienced other martial arts such as: Lui Ho Ba Fa, Wuji Tai Chi, and Ba Gua Zhang. He has had some of the rarest experiences studying with world renowned masters and grandmasters in many different arts such as: Master Billy Graham (Tai Kwan Do), Master Rick Pasetta (American Goju Ryu), Master Ron Wilson (Wing Chun, Tai Chi, classical animals, Chin Na, weapons, Ba Gua, and Wuji Tai Chi), Master William Ting (Wuji Tai Chi, Ba Gua, and Qi Gong), Grandmaster Wai Lun Choi (Tai Chi, Lui Ho Ba Fa, and weapons), Master Fa Xiang Hou (Qi Gong), Grandmaster Mantak Chia (Qi Gong), and last but not least Master Keith Mazza (Wing Chun).
